You won’t win today’s fight with yesterday’s regret.
There was a long period of my life where I woke up already tired because I was fighting yesterday before my feet even hit the floor.
Old decisions… missed chances… words I should’ve said differently. Seasons I stayed way too damn long in or walked away from way too fast. I carried all of it into today like it was evidence in a case against myself. I thought if I punished myself long enough, it would somehow fix what already happened.
Well… It didn’t.
You won’t win today’s fight with yesterday’s regret. Regret doesn’t make you sharper. It doesn’t make you more disciplined. Most of the time, it just keeps you frozen in time. It convinces you that staying stuck is safer than moving forward because at least the pain is familiar.
I learned this… the hard way. I spent years replaying the same moments, telling myself that if I had just known better, I would be further ahead by now. Meanwhile, life kept moving. Opportunities passed me up. Healing stopped and stalled. Not because I was incapable, but because I was still arguing with a version of myself that no longer existed.
Here’s a truth that I had to accept… regret isn’t meant to be carried. It’s meant to be listened to. It has a lesson and an expiration date. It points to what mattered. It highlights where I was unhealed. It shows me where I need stronger boundaries, clearer values, or more honesty. Once that lesson is learned, regret has done its job.
Dragging it into today only makes the fight so much harder.
Today doesn’t need your shame. It needs your presence. It needs the person you are now, not the one you used to be. You don’t move forward by reliving old failures. You move forward by applying what they taught you and taking the next step anyway.
Learn the lesson. Drop the weight. Keep going.
That is how you win today.
