Some mornings I notice it before I even realize what’s off…. The day feels rushed. My patience is a little thin. Everything feels a little out of sync.

That’s when I think about music.

Music has always mattered so much to me. It’s been a place I could go for comfort. A way to get slow, as I sometimes say. A way to convey what’s going on without having to actually explain it. When I pick up a guitar, I’m not trying to impress anyone at all. These days all I’m trying to do is settle myself. I’m trying to find the rhythm again.

Anyone who has played knows this… Miss the beat, and the whole thing feels wrong. You can still play the notes, but they don’t land right. You rush… you hesitate… you start overthinking instead of feeling it. And the more you try to force it, the worse it sounds.

Life works the same way!

When I skip the small daily things, my rhythm suffers. When I stop checking in with myself, when I rush through conversations, when I ignore getting proper rest, prayer, or reflection, I start playing out of sync. I’m still showing up, but I’m not present. I’m hitting notes without feeling the music.

Trauma recovery taught me that healing has a tempo, growth has a cadence. You can’t rush it without paying a price. You can’t fake the rhythm.

So, staying in rhythm isn’t about perfection. It’s about paying attention. It’s about really listening. It’s about noticing when I’m drifting away and slowing down long enough to find the beat again.

Some days that means picking up my guitar and jamming out… Some days it means sitting alone in silence… Some days it means choosing to just pause.

You don’t lose everything when you miss a beat. But if you ignore it long enough, you lose the rhythm that keeps everything else rock steady.

Slow down… Listen… Find the beat again.
