Sorry I've missed a few days…

Life has been moving pretty damn fast lately, and this coming week I'm bringing two of my girls to college. I'm proud, emotional, excited, and probably a hundred other things I haven't figured out how to put into words yet. So if Today's Light doesn't show up every single day this week, that's why.

But I wanted to tell you something before things get crazy...

I'm doing much better.
I'm not out of it yet, but I'm doing a lot better. I say that because I've been doing the hard work. That's the part we don't talk about enough.

Getting better isn't always some beautiful breakthrough where you wake up one morning and suddenly everything makes sense. Sometimes getting better is boring as hell.

It's getting up when you don't want to...

It's doing what you know you need to do even when you don't feel like doing shit…

It's accepting help instead of pretending you don't need it…

It's talking to someone when you'd rather just disappear…

It's taking care of yourself when your mind is telling you there's no point…

It's putting one foot in front of the other without knowing exactly where the road leads…

Again… and again… and again.

That's the work.

I've also learned how important the people around you are. The calls. The texts. The messages. The prayers. The people who check in without expecting anything back. The people who sit next to you without trying to fix you.

That shit matters more than people realize.

So thank you to everyone who has supported me. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

But there's something else I've learned.

Support can hold your hand, but eventually you've still got to do the walking.

Nobody can do the hard work for you.

Nobody can make you get back up.

Nobody can force you to keep fighting.

At some point, you've got to decide that you're worth the work.

And sometimes that's the entire victory for the day.

You kept going.

Maybe today wasn't pretty. Maybe you barely accomplished anything. Maybe all you managed to do was survive another shitty day.

Good… you survived it!

Now get up tomorrow and do it again!

Because those days start stacking up…

The work starts stacking…

The tiny victories start stacking…

And somewhere along the way, without even realizing exactly when it happened, you start becoming stronger than the thing that was trying to break you.

So keep pushing… do the hard work… let people help you… give yourself some fucking grace.

And don't confuse a difficult chapter with the end of your story… It does get better.

Sometimes painfully slow. Sometimes two steps forward and one step backward. Sometimes so quietly you don't even notice it happening.

But keep going!

One day you're going to realize the person who kept dragging your ass through every impossible day was the same exact person who ultimately saved you… You!
