And then boom… your system reacts.

You shut down.
You snap.
You overthink everything into the ground.
You detach like nothing matters.

Afterward you sit there thinking why the hell did I react like that?

Because it’s not about what just happened, it’s about what it reminded you of.

Your brain isn’t trying to ruin your life, it’s trying to protect you the only way it knows how.

The problem is… it’s using old strategies for a life that doesn’t exist anymore.

And your body? It doesn’t chase what’s healthy… It chases what’s familiar.

So if chaos was your normal… you’ll recreate it without even realizing it.

Start paying attention to what sets you off. It could be a tone in someone’s voice, a look, being ignored, feeling controlled, or feeling like you’re about to be left.

Then comes the hard part.

Slow it down.

Trauma reactions are fast as hell and they don’t ask for permission.

But you can interrupt them…

Pause.
Take a breath.
Give yourself a few seconds before you respond.

That space right there… that’s where change lives.

Then ask yourself the real question… what does this actually remind me of?

Because it’s almost never about right now, it’s about something older that never got dealt with.

When you see that clearly… the situation in front of you loses some of its grip.

Now you’ve got a choice.

You can run the same pattern again or you can do something different.

It won’t feel natural at first.
As a matter of fact it might feel uncomfortable as hell.

Good.

That means you’re not on autopilot.

If your pattern is shutting down… speak.
If your pattern is blowing up… pause.
If your pattern is overthinking… ground yourself and come back to what’s real.

You’re not trying to become perfect.
You’re trying to become aware enough to choose differently.

And let’s be real right now…

This doesn’t change overnight.

You don’t undo years and years of survival patterns in a single moment.

You build new ones… slowly… repeatedly.

Every time you catch it…
Every time you pause instead of react…
Every time you choose something different…

You’re rewriting your story… in real time.

So be patient… but don’t bullshit yourself either.

This work matters.

Because if you don’t break the cycle…
you’ll keep living inside it.
