Run Your Race. Comparison is for losers.
This hits close to home for me, because I have watched it lived out for years.
My Dad runs every single day. No excuses… no drama. On the weekends, he lines up for his races. Sometimes it is a 5K… sometimes it’s a five mile race. There are always other runners around him. Younger ones… faster ones… people who look like they have something to prove.
But that’s never his focus.
He’s not scanning the crowd. He’s not worried about who passes him or who started stronger. He’s running against one thing only… his own best time.
Every race is the same conversation. Did I show up? Did I pace myself? Did I give it everything I had today? Did I beat yesterday’s version of me, even if only by a few seconds?
That mindset sticks with me.
Because comparison is loud and tempting, especially when you’re building something slowly and its taking time. It tells you to rush. It tells you that you are behind. It tells you that you should look more like someone else by now or be further along.
But real progress is quiet… It’s consistent, and It’s personal.
My Dad’s race reminds me that it’s always been you versus you. Your discipline… your patience… your follow through… your willingness to keep showing up even when no one is looking.
Everyone’s course is different. Everyone’s pace is different. The only race that actually matters though, is the one that makes you better than you were last time.
So today, I’m staying in my lane. I’m focused on my stride. I’m measuring progress the right way.
Run your race.
